A wonderfully scary and fun game that can be played at parties, sleep-overs, and Halloween gatherings is the séance. There are lots of ways to facilitate a séance, and this can be a spooky way to get guests to have fun.
The first step is to set the mood. You can have dim lighting, candles, and fresh flowers. Some people opt for religious artifacts. If you want to really create some ambiance, have your medium - the person communing with the spirits - dress the part.
A turban and mysterious, shroud-like clothing can work wonders. If you do not have a medium, you can always fake it and have someone dress the part. However, this means that you have to make the entire thing farcical and just-for-fun.
The art of deception can be powerful things that you can utilize to scare your guests. Have someone hide behind the furniture and make noises or mess with the lighting. You can also arrange to have someone call the house phone during the séance.
This will be a "sign" from the spirit world. If you are not into faking it, you can hire a real medium, or just skip the medium altogether and try summoning the spirits without one. If you have an Ouija board, you can use to communicate with the other side.
While these can be purchased from stores and on the internet, you can technically make one from scratch. In fact, this is a great way to kick off any spooky party - making your own Ouija boards. All that you need is a flat surface (think a strong piece of cardboard) and some paint, and perhaps something out of which to make a pointer.
Playing Ouija by a roaring fire or even outside under the stars is a sure way to keep everyone scared!
